Undoubtedly Tokyo Ghoul is one of the widely popular and successful anime of on all times, thanks to the deep embedded meanings. In the anime Uta bears a greek phrase tattoo on his neck
νεχ ποσσυμ τεχυμ ωιωερε, νεχ σινε τε
which translates to “I can neither live with you nor without you” . This expression perfectly explains the relationship between ghouls and humans. The location of it being on the neck plays a significant role to Ita and the anime.
We often see scenes of both ghoul and humans grabbing each other by the neck during fights. In Uta’s eyes if was to be grabbed by the neck by a Dove, then those will be the last words his killer would see. It’s the last hopeful thing that Uta could really do to serve as a pipeline to both ghouls and humans.

An alternate translation would be “we’ve been waiting for you to Live”
Yea. Tokyo Ghoul is one awesome anime with lots of symbolism
Thanks for letting me know
There’s a line in chapter 170 of :re after yomo and uta’s fight that goes
“You are my pain. You kill me, you keep me alive.”
Maybe that’s one of the things it symbolizes.
