Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese anime based on Ishida Sui’s manga of the same name. The story revolves around Kaneki, a boy who ends up with a ghoul’s transplant on his first date. Life no longer is the same. He is forced to adapt to the lifestyle of the ghoul, which including eating human flesh over regular food.
The anime explores what it means to be trapped in the middle of war. What means to be stuck. Most importantly what means to be human. If you are looking for a dark anime to watch this fall, then Tokyo Ghoul is the perfect anime. The anime combines art, music and literature perfectly.
From a personal standpoint, what I enjoyed the most was the symbolism in the anime. For example, in episode eleven of season one Kaneki’s hair turns white due to torture. This was loosely based upon a real life historical event where Queen Marie’s hair turned white. Not to forget, there’s a name for it called the Marie Anotte Syndrome.
With that being said, if you enjoy dark anime, then you should definitely watch Tokyo Ghoul. You will love it.
